Sale-a-bration

Hancock's Fabrics is having a sale again. I believe they have one every other week, just to spite me. But this time I shall be buying a few things. My cart so far consists of some key problem solvers and some fun stuff. I was toying with the idea of inserting a lining to help with the see-though-ness on the Bow Back Shirt. So I have a couple of different linings in my cart; one for the Bow Back Shirt and some for other future projects.

I also an trying some suede fabric. I have a dark blue and a dark green suede in my cart. I am getting a yard of each, but I'm not quite sure what I'm going to do with them just yet. It just looks so soft and I love the colors.

I also have some Stretch Poplin in blue in my cart. I am pretty sure I need a dark blue skirt, so I got 2 yards of that. I have some white lace with bows on it that I might add to the skirt. Maybe in small details somewhere. I have been commissioned to make a sweater that looks something like this. Maybe I will do something along those lines with my blue skirt.

I bought quite a few zippers the last time, but I have been hand sewing them. Its not horribly hard, but I have been thinking about getting a zipper foot for my machine. I saw this and was curious about it, so I did a search on using a universal zipper foot and came up with this awesome tutorial video that actually shows this exact universal zipper foot! Plus, it's on sale for $1.59. How could I say no?

I am also going to get some more magnetic snaps. I bought some a while back, but I have not used them yet. But what's a few more going to hurt?

I also want to try dyeing again. I have done it once and loved the results! I am wearing a shirt today that was a white Old Navy shirt that I dyed green. I also dyed a pink skirt the same shade of green, but it came out a bit darker than the shirt. The skirt was ok, but the color was too light for my skin. I thought a nice green would look better, and it does! But this time I believe I will try black and navy blue dyes. Lets see what happens!!

I was thinking about getting some more thread, as it seems you can never have enough. However, a few weeks ago I was faced with a dilemma; I had run out of black thread in the middle of sewing! I am lazy, so I did not want to go out to Hancock's (which is only a couple of miles from my house) to get a small roll of thread. But a week before I had bought a large cone of Maxi-Lock thread for $2.50. I did some research on whether or not I could use it on my non-serger machine, and the general consensus was that you could use it, but it might not be as strong as a regular thread. Since I am not Xena: Warrior Princess with my clothes, I figured I would give it a shot. So when I finally received it, I was not in need of thread. Then I ran out. Back to my dilemma. After running out, I tried placing the serger cone on my normal thread holder thingy (that's a technical term), but it was waaaay too big and flopped dangerously around. So my brilliant husband took the empty thread roll and whittled it down to fit just inside the serger roll. Now it works perfectly!!

Toodles!
