Hello there! My name is Sarah and welcome to my blog! Although I have been sewing for a long time, I just recently got really into it. When I was really little, my great aunt would send me little swatches of fabric, which I would in turn make into tiny pillows. Why pillows? I don't know. Maybe because they were square and I was a kid, so they were easy to fold and sew and stuff.
I've always been able to sew small things, like fixing a rip in my jeans or reattaching a zipper, but I never got into anything really heavy until the summer of 2013. I was introduced to a wonderful blog http://refashionista.net/. I read her posts and loved her idea of refashioning clothes! I love Goodwill and any excuse to go is fine with me! I borrowed my mom's sewing machine and got to work! I didn't know anything about sewing machines, so it was a bit of a challenge working with one after hand sewing for so long.
However, after a couple of weeks, I realized that I would rather make my clothes from scratch. One day, I took a fateful trip to Hancock Fabrics with my mother and discovered patterns. And I have not turned back since!
These past few years, I have really thought about who I am and what I like, fashion wise. I'm a normal sized woman, so making my own clothes that not only fit but that I really liked just felt like the right thing to do. As the lovely Marilyn Monroe once said:
“Your clothes should be tight enough to show you're a woman but loose enough to show you're a lady”
I very much like retro clothes, as most of them tend to stick to that fashion rule of thumb. Don't get me wrong, I love jeans and a t-shirt. But the older I get, the more I want to express myself through fashion. I still don't know all the ropes of sewing yet, but I am always learning.
