Remnant Skirt
So, I got all of those remnants for a couple dollars a piece, and the husband was super sweet and washed them all while I was at work. As wonderful as that was, it also kinda messed me up. I'm not quite sure what these remnants are, fabric wise. I have this wonderful dark blue fabric and I'm not sure what it's made of.
It almost looks like a corduroy on the outside, but on the inside it's sort of silky. It does not need a hem, so it's some sort of knit, maybe? But anywho, I wanted to make a skirt with it. I found this pattern at goodwill for $.49, so I tossed it in my cart. Yes, I almost always get a shopping cart at goodwill. Don't ask...
When I decided to make this skirt, I emptied the contents of the pattern and to my surprise I found that someone had already cut out the skirt pattern parts! Sweet!! So I got to cutting. I also was not sure how much of this fabric I had, as it was also written on the remnant paper. I knew that I had found 2 of the same blue fabric and they were over a yard combined, but exactly how much? Who knows!
The pattern called for 1 and 1/4 of fabric, so I figured I should have enough. I took the biggest piece and ironed it out, as it was a little wrinkly. I arranged the pieces on the fabric and it was plenty! The only thing I did was skip the pockets. I am a huge fan of pockets, but with the type of fabric I had, I didn't want to add a pocket. I thought it might add too much bulk. So if I had decided to include the pockets, I would have had to use the other remnant. But now I have some left over! Woop!
The pattern was super simple and I was done in no time.
The only complaint I have is that the waistband is a little too loose. Easy fix. I might wear it tomorrow for my day out with Sammi. We're going to Ulta for a breast cancer awareness Cut-A-Thon. You pay $10 for a haircut and then donate whatever else you want. I went last year and loved it. It was a very nice haircut, shampoo and style for $10. Plus, they have so much fun stuff in there! Win/Win.
