Better Together Sweater
I work with 4 lovely ladies, one of whom must think I am more poor than I think I am. She is constantly bringing me bags of clothes that she got at Goodwill. Don't get me wrong, I love free clothes! But I've been making so much stuff here lately; that and I had a good clothing collection to begin with. So I am in desperate need of a closet clean out. That is waaaay harder for me than you might realize. I am a very sentimental person. If you look in my purse, for example, you will see no fewer than 4 notes that my husband has left for me on my coffee cup on random mornings. Most of them simply say "I LOVE YOU!!" I know he loves me, so why must I save every scrap of paper he has left me? Because I am, say it with me, sen-ti-men-tal. I am the same way with clothing. "I can't possibly donate this shirt!!! I bought it when me and mom went to Goodwill that one time." Does mom remember this shirt? Probably not. Did she buy it for me? Possibly, and therein lies the problem.
So today I decided to refashion one of the items of clothing that she gave me and hopefully give it to one of my lovely ladies. Today's contestant is this very nice St Johns Bay sweater.
My coworker asked me if I like long sweaters, to which I replied "of course!" She came in the next day with a giant bag with 6 or 7 sweaters in it. Most of them fit, but most of them were not really my style, and only 2 of them were 'long.' I liked this sweater (there was an identical cream version in that bag, too) but there were a couple of problems with it. Mainly that it didn't button up... at all. I love me a grandpa sweater, but its got to have buttons or a zipper or something. So, I wondered what would happen if I sewed right up the front and made it into a sweater dress instead!
I pinned the front together right along the seams and went to work sewing it on a zig-zag stitch. It took forever, mainly because the thing was so damn thick. I was slightly tugging on the other side to get it to move through the machine a little faster. But all-in-all, I think it looks nice!
I think I will take this back to work and see if any of the girls would like it. If not, to Goodwill we go!!
