Web Bond Kitty Cat Skirt

I am a sucker... Let me just put that out there. I am a sucker because when I hear someone getting yelled at while at their job, it makes me sad. Especially when they work retail. Retail sucks, I know. Been there, done that. So when I went into Hancocks for their big Labor Day sale, I was saddened to hear these two young girls being scolded by who I assume is their manager or possibly assistant manager. Anywho, she was telling them about having to sell the item of the day or week or month or however long it lasts. I did not even hear what the item was, but I remember the good old days of being a cashier at Best Buy and having to sell ridiculous stuff to make some quota that never reflected back to me if I did well. So when I got to the register and there was one of the girls, I instantly felt bad. I'm still not signing up for your stupid coupon card, but I bought the item of the week/day/month. End Rant.

Oddly enough, I was kind of looking for something similar at Hancocks and did not find it, so I thought this might work. I was looking for this... A Fabric Folding Pen. I thought it might be handy. I did not find it, but I found the replacement liquid that goes to it. Go figure. Anywho, I get to the register and buy their special sale item which was this web bond madness. This stuff is temporary which sounds nice for what I want to use it for. I originally wanted to use it for doing darts and whatnot.

The other day I was bored and looking at Modcloth, which can take up a good portion of your time as they have so much cute stuff to look at. I came upon this cat skirt and wanted to make something similar but with one cat. So I printed out an outline of a cat and sprayed the back of the paper with this web bond and then stuck some stretchy black fabric onto the web bond.

And they're not kidding, either. The stuff shoots out like a spider web. It's very odd. Anywho, I let it dry for a bit and then went back and cut out the cat. Then I peeled the paper off and voila! Instant (sort of) fabric cat! It will have minimum fraying because of the material, so I can sew it onto whatever and if it frays a bit, it will just look more cat like. No biggie. I wanted to put it onto something, but it was a bit too small for the skirt I had in mind. So I printed out a bigger cat and did the same thing! My husband thinks I am nuts, but I think its cute! What do you think?

(See the weird dark spots around the cat? See side note below...)

I love it! Its classy looking with a bit of whimsy thrown in. I like the Modcloth skirt's multiple cats, but I am more of a simplistic kind of gal. I'll probably stick the smaller cat on a shirt or scarf. I will take better 'not taken with my phone' pics when our computer is not as broken. :)

**Side Note: I was very dissatisfied with the customer service at Hancocks when we went there this weekend. I used the web bond to attach the cat to the skirt and had a bit of over spray. I checked the back of the adhesive and it said to wipe up any excess with an adhesive remover. My bad, I didn't see that when you were peddling your wares on me at the register. So the husband and I took a trip down there and looked all through their adhesive section. Not only did I not see the one that I bought, I also did not see any remover whatsoever! I grabbed an employee and asked her about it and she took me to the stabilizer area, where we did not find anything remotely close to what I was looking for. Thats ok, I figured we would look in another place. But then she said "I'm sorry, I have to go help those customers. Try soap and water." and just left me there. I was quite shocked. I thought you were helping me?? I put down the other products I was going to buy and we left. The husband was more mad than I was and he wanted to say something to the lady and I wish he had. I never think about things to say until way later. But that was just, well, crappy. I normally don't ask for help. I usually do the research before coming to the store, but our internets are down at home. But if I don't see what I am looking for, I will then ask for help. We went home and I did try soap and water... nothing happened. I eventually used vasoline to remove it because the can said to use a 'petroleum based adhesive remover.' It worked, but there was a slightly darker spot where I used the vasoline. I tried a few things I read online about removing vasoline from clothes and it looks pretty decent now. But seriously, this is why I usually shop online. I never would have done that to someone I was helping in all my years in retail. At least she could have been like "I'm really not sure. Let me go ask another employee" or something. Don't just leave me with 'try soap and water. Kthnxbai' What if I had and it made it worse?! I would have gone back up there and I would have been pissed. If you don't know, just say so... I'll understand. I'd rather you be honest and I'll leave the store frustrated, but not pissed. Don't just be like 'uh, gotta go help someone else. good luck!' I mean, I realize I should have read about the remover before buying it, but there was a line behind me and I was just trying to help a lady out. Needless to say, I'll probably still use the web bond crap, but I might try spraying the smaller piece and sticking it on the bigger piece. My bad...
